Airbnb title length tips: how long should your title be?

Short version: aim for fewer than 50 characters, lead with your best feature, and skip emojis and all caps. Here is what Airbnb's own guidance says, with examples.

The 50 character guideline

Airbnb's guidelines for writing your listing title say to start with the most important information and try to use fewer than 50 characters, because longer titles are automatically shortened in search results to fit smaller screens. Their example: "Country cabin with lake view, fire pit, boat ramp" may show up as "Country cabin with lake view..."

Some channel managers also enforce a 50 character cap when they sync titles to Airbnb (for example, Guesty For Hosts counts title plus nickname, including spaces).

Checklist for a strong title

  • Under 50 characters, most important detail first.
  • Name a feature or setting guests care about: a view, a porch, a hot tub, a workspace, a walk to downtown. Airbnb's example: "Cozy cabin with chef's kitchen" (Help your listing stand out).
  • Capitalize only the first word plus proper names, like "Seaside shack at Bondi Beach". Airbnb says lowercase is easier to read and more conversational.
  • No emojis or repeated symbols. A single comma or slash is fine; "!!!" and "***" are not. Airbnb's content policy also asks hosts not to use symbols or emojis in titles (Help article).
  • Do not repeat what search already shows, like town, bed count or "new". Use that space for a detail instead. Airbnb's example swaps "New, 3-bed apartment in Florence" for "Sunny walkup near the Uffizi".

Can I change my title later?

Yes. Airbnb says you can change your title whenever you want, and changes may take up to an hour to show (Airbnb Help). Many hosts try a few versions over time.
